On Thursday, February 1, representatives from Tourism Tofino and the Tofino Long Beach Chamber of Commerce were given a tour of Tofino’s new wastewater treatment plant that is currently under construction. Scheduled to go online by the end of 2024, this critically important infrastructure project has been a long-time coming for our community and it was exciting to learn about how it will operate.
The tourism industry in Tofino is contributing $1.6 million to the wastewater treatment plant over the 4-year period 2023 to 2027 from the MRDT (Municipal & Regional District Tax). This tax is paid by visitors staying at local accommodations in Tofino and is the primary funding source for Tourism Tofino.
