The District of Tofino is calling on all residents, visitors and businesses to significantly reduce water consumption immediately.
A leak was identified in the submarine pipeline that supplies water from Meares Island to the Bay Street Water Treatment Facility. Crews are at the site addressing the issue. The District of Tofino is asking residents, visitors and businesses to restrict their water use immediately while crews isolate and repair the rupture.
These restrictions include but are not limited to:
- Watering gardens and lawns
- Washing vehicles and boats
- Outdoor showers
- Washing of wetsuits
The restrictions are necessary to ensure adequate reserves for fire protection.
During this time, all public showers will be shut off and public washrooms will be closed.
