May 2023 has been significantly hotter and drier than usual.
On average, Tofino receives ~150mm of rain in May. This year, we have received only ~4.2mm of rain so far. Water consumption is up as well, with an increase of 10% from 2022 (up to May 21), and 50% from 2021.

As of Monday, May 29, the District of Tofino will enter Stage Two of Water Conservation.

Of particular relevance to tourism businesses, the filling and refilling of hot tubs will be prohibited.

A District of Tofino campaign began on April to target major water users to educate and remind groups about the importance of water conservation during this season.
One-on-one meetings continue with sector leaders.
