With this bylaw set to pass on World Oceans Day, June 8th, Tourism Tofino is collaborating with the District of Tofino and is taking the following steps to inform visitors before arriving in-destination that when coming to Tofino they should travel with their re-useable bags and water bottles/mugs (or purchase one from our fine member businesses!):
- Information about the ban on single-use plastic bags and plastic straws will be on several pages of tourismtofino.com, including Travel Tips + Regulations.
- We will be using our social media channels and electronic direct mail to inform our followers.
- Most of all, we are encouraging our members to inform their bookings prior to their arrival.
Once on-site in Tofino, visitors entering our Visitor Centre will be informed and educated by our Visitor Services Counsellors, signage and retail offerings of reusable items.

Hi –
During the open house – presenting the single use bag decision – I had inquired about giving visitors our recycled bags – I am wondering if there was a decision made about it/or any thoughts regarding that type of distribution.
thanks
Nancy Cameron
Hi, I believe that you can provide visitors with your recycled bags but please double-check with the District of Tofino bylaw office.
