Resort occupancy levels from January to April remained low, with ongoing efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19. However, unlike last year, we can now see the end of this tumultuous period.
The provincial restart plan announced yesterday provided everyone in the tourism industry with some very welcome news and information.
We would like to acknowledge and thank the Province of BC for creating this well thought-out plan, and also the many people and tourism organizations who advocated for this roadmap to recovery. This includes the Tourism Industry Association of BC, The BC Hotel Association, The BC Restaurant and Food Services Association, other sector associations, regions, DMOs and individual businesses just to name a few.
Tourism really is an industry of industries and its impact, both direct and indirect, is immense. The COVID-19 crisis has exposed the importance of tourism and its value to the economies and well-being of so many B.C. communities, both large and small.
