Hello Members,

As we navigate the start of Phase 3 we thought it would be helpful to have some new messaging for you to utilize. Outlined below are some Q & A’s to address some common questions that we are receiving at the Visitor Centre, and suspect that you too are receiving:

Q:  I’ve been hearing in the media that I won’t be able to get to Tofino.  Is this correct?

A:   Highway 4, Tofino, Ucluelet and Pacific Rim National Park Reserve are open.  Access to some First Nation communities is not allowed in order to ensure their safety and security.  Parking is also not allowed near these communities.

Q:  What areas are closed?

A:  Ahousaht and Hesquiaht First Nation territories remain closed until further notice, including Maquinna Provincial Park/Hot Springs Cove, Hesquiaht Harbour, Lone Cone Trail on Meares Island and the Wild Side Trail on Flores Island.

Q:  Are trails in Tofino and area open?

A:  Trails in Tofino are open. The Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation has opened some amenities within Tla-o-qui-aht Tribal Parks, including the Big Tree Trail on Meares Island. Some, but not all, trails in the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve are open. Check their website for updates.

Q:  Can I use the grocery stores?

A:   Yes, we encourage you to shop locally for all your needs.

Q:  Where can I find information on what’s open?

A:   For a current list of businesses and services that are open go to the  News and Blogs section of the Tourism Tofino website (tourismtofino.com).

Q.  Is the free Shuttle running this year?

A.  Unfortunately the shuttle is not running this year but there are some private transportation companies who are offering shuttle and taxi services.   Please ask your accommodation provider for details.

Q:  Is there anything else I should know or prepare for?

A:  For “Know before you go” information go to the “Travelling to Tofino during COVID-19”  bulletin on the home page of the Tourism Tofino website (tourismtofino.com).
